By Tony Sanchez
Hope Capital is a provider of short-term finance secured against property, their proposition is driven by their desire to provide fast, flexible solutions to clients who have short term funding needs and wish to partner with an experienced lender who is dedicated to improving the reputation of the sector through education, pro-active communication and greater collaboration, between all parties.
We speak to head of marketing, Miriam Howarth:
What is the best thing about being in the bridging finance business?
I’m relatively new to the world of bridging and working for a lender, so the best thing is the opportunity to learn and grow. It’s a very niche industry and despite having an FS background there’s a lot to get to grips with!
What keeps you focused?
I love what I do, so focusing has never been a real challenge. Plus, Hope Capital has ambitious growth plans and that presents the opportunity to grow with the company so there is no time to be distracted.
What qualities do you look for in your employees or colleagues?
People who inspire and challenge but are also supportive and up for a laugh too.
Are you an optimist or a pessimist?
Definitely an optimist. It’s too much hard work to have a downer on things all the time.
What did you want to be as a child?
The list is as long as my arm! Everything from becoming a trainer at Sea World, owning an ice cream van and a lawyer (Ally McBeal inspired!).
What will be the greatest challenge facing the bridging finance industry in the coming months?
From my short time in the bridging industry I think that property valuations have a huge impact on lending. Given the current uncertainties, particularly surrounding Brexit, there is a tendency for valuers to err on the side of caution and down value property, which can be frustrating for both borrowers and lenders alike.
Who or what makes you laugh?
Countless times every day my kitten, Wilfred, makes me smile and laugh. I’d definitely be stressed and miserable without him!
Do you dread Monday mornings?
Absolutely not! If I did, I would know it was time for a change.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
To be more patient, particularly when driving behind someone slow!
With whom would you most like to have dinner?
There’s plenty on the list, but I think it would have to be my Granny who passed away four years ago.
