We speak to bridging manager, Liam Arnold:

What is the best thing about being in the bridging finance business?

I am a budding Kevin McCloud in the making. I simply love helping a client realise their ambitions.

The fact that you can take a piece of land and fund the build of a house from nothing, and then see the end product of what you have helped finance with the knowledge that one day a family will make it a home is just so rewarding. There is nothing like it.

What keeps you focused?

One day I want to turn on the TV and watch Kevin McCloud follow one of my development builds of an amazing Grand Design property. Although, it will be a boring episode as everything will go to plan.

What qualities do you look for in your employees or colleagues?

There is nothing more important than hard work and drive. Everyone has good days and bad. It is on the bad days that you really see what someone is made of, with the tenacity to keep going when times are tough and the desire to achieve a goal is just invaluable.

This goes hand in hand with high level knowledge and the expertise to solve issues where others will give up hope.

Are you an optimist or a pessimist?

Quoting the legend that is Winston Churchill “A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty”. Simply, I like to succeed where others fail.

What did you want to be as a child?

Growing up I used to watch a lot of war films with my Grandad and used to listen to the stories of when he used to be in the RAF, it made me want to be a pilot as a teenager and I came very close to joining the RAF. However, development is a lot safer.

What will be the greatest challenge facing the bridging finance industry in the coming months?

Now that our lord and saviour Mr Boris Johnson has finally resolved the issue of Brexit which has been the unrelenting cause of uncertainty and hesitation in the market, the future is bright.

The greatest challenge will be to continue to source appropriate finance for clients and encourage them to invest in a property market whilst it is still low and drive it back to the height it was previously.

Do you dread Monday mornings?

In a life where you spend 1/3^rd of your time working, the hatred of Monday just does not make sense as you should love what you do.

Monday is the start of my working week and continued effort to achieve my goals and aspirations, how can I one day build my own Grand Design if I dread a Monday morning.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

Be more Like Matt Tristram…. or so he tells me.

With whom would you most like to have dinner?

Frank Lampard. I am a blue through and through, and he has always been my favourite player.

To talk about his illustrious playing career and discuss the road ahead with him now as our manager would be amazing.

Although I will probably have to invite Matt as he is also a blue, so that would probably ruin the experience.
