In our latest five minute interview, Tony Sanchez speaks to Scott McClymont, who recently joined Allica Bank as a Business Development Manager for bridging finance in Scotland.

Allica Bank are a challenger business bank dedicated to supporting established SMEs.

Acquiring their banking licence in 2019, the bank has already lent over £3 billion to businesses across the UK, offering commercial mortgages, asset finance and growth finance.

In the summer of 2024, it acquired bridging lender Tuscan Capital, which it recently rebranded to Allica Bridging Finance.

It offers fast and flexible short-term residential and commercial property finance up to £10 million.

What is the best thing about being in the bridging finance business?

I find it incredibly exciting being in such a fast-paced environment.

Allica recognise that we need to work quickly to develop best-fit solutions for our brokers and their clients.

Also, my new team at Allica Bridging Finance are a fantastic bunch to work with and I’m really enjoying my new role.

What keeps you focused?

A simple desire to do the best job possible for the team, the broker and the client.

At the end of the day, we’re helping businesses and property professionals achieve their goals, and it’s so rewarding to be a part of that.

That’s why it’s also important we regularly assess our product proposition and service offering to ensure we’re always meeting the needs of brokers and their clients.

What qualities do you look for in your employees or colleagues?

I love to work with colleagues who possess a positive attitude, ambition and determination to deliver the highest level of customer service.

Are you an optimist or a pessimist?

I’m definitely an optimist.

What did you want to be as a child?

I loved all sports, but especially athletics and football.

My dream was to compete at either the Olympics or the World Cup. I’m still working on it!

What will be the greatest challenge facing the bridging finance industry in the coming months?

There’s a growing number of bridging lenders, which is great for competition, but lenders need to work hard to distinguish themselves. This also makes the expertise of a broker more important than ever.

I’m proud to have joined Allica who I believe offer something incredibly distinct. #

They have significant resources and backing, helping them to offer some market-leading products.

But, most importantly, it’s our knowledge and expertise that enables us to develop long-term relationship with our broker community.

Who or what makes you laugh?

Michael McIntyre’s Big Show is a Saturday night favourite in our house.

Do you dread Monday mornings?

No, I look forward to Monday mornings.

I’m lucky to work with a great team in an exciting industry.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I’d like to be ever so slightly taller.

With whom would you most like to have dinner?

Sir Alex Ferguson, the greatest football manager of all time.
