What is the best thing about being in the bridging and development finance business?

The fast pace of the industry and the relationships I have built up over the years with clients and other professionals.

What keeps you focused?

There is always another deal to handle and another deadline to meet.

What qualities do you look for in your employees or colleagues?

In addition to specific technical skills for the areas of law and transactions we handle, it is important that they have the ability to manage demanding clients professionally and courteously and other solicitors in a way which encourages them to help us achieve the desired outcome for our client.

Are you an optimist or a pessimist?

Neither – I see myself as a realist.

What did you want to be as a child?

A tennis player but most of all ‘an adult’.

What will be the greatest challenge facing the bridging and development finance industry in the coming months?

An influx of new lenders in both markets has created significant competition leading to pressure on pricing and terms which looks like it will continue in the short to medium term.

Who or what makes you laugh?

My dog Frankie.

Do you dread Monday mornings?

Occasionally of course but thankfully most of the time I don’t.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I would like to be able to switch off sometimes but the industry I am in doesn’t really allow that.

With whom would you most like to have dinner?

Ricky Gervais and Stephen Fry.
