The Five Minute Interview with Richard Deacon, Sales & Marketing Director, Masthaven
By Tony Sanchez
Masthaven Bridging Finance is an FSA regulated multi award winning lender that paid out its first loan in 1983.
In that time Masthaven has become a regular port of call for brokers, intermediaries and IFA’s alike wishing to place first and second charge bridging loans along with renovation and refurbishment deals. With backing from the William Pears Group and Saffron Building Society amongst others Masthaven is one of the true leading lights in the bridging finance arena.
We speak to their sales & marketing director, Richard Deacon:
What is the best thing about being in the bridging finance business?
Variety. Whether it’s the deals that come in or the people you meet, variety is most definitely the spice of bridging life !
What keeps you focussed?
Knowing that you are only as good as your last month. You may have millions in the pipeline, but it counts for nothing until it completes.
What qualities do you look for in your employees or colleagues?
Commitment, honesty, attention to detail. I firmly believe that people buy from people, so we look to have a team that can empathise with both broker, client and solicitor to get the deal through.
Are you an optimist or a pessimist?
I think I am a natural optimist, but there are days that can seriously test you. Life can be hard sometimes and you really need to keep faith in yourself and your ability to remain optimistic.
What did you want to be as a child?
Spaceman……and I still do !
What will be the greatest challenge facing the bridging finance industry in the coming months?
For most it will be regulation. I think there is no getting away from it. Luckily Masthaven is already regulated.
Who or what makes you laugh?
My 5 year old son who has recently started school. Some of the things he comes out with has me in fits of laughter.
Do you dread Monday mornings?
Dread them? I embrace them….that’ll be the optimist in me !!
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
My lack of ability to sink putts of less than 10 ft !
With whom would you most like to have dinner?
Can I pick a tables worth?
Chris Yates, Darren Clarke, Stephen Fry, Sir Henry Cecil and Ben Elton…..the women can cook it…as they should !!!!!
