We speak to underwriting manager, Maria Curatolo:

What is the best thing about being in the bridging finance business?

The diversity of the different types of cases we deal with every day.  No deal is the same and each brings its own challenges.

What keeps you focused?

Lots of coffee and music.  Working together with my colleagues to achieve results and giving our brokers a great service.

When good feedback comes in it makes it all worthwhile and gives you the motivation to do it all again!

What qualities do you look for in your employees or colleagues?

A sense of humour and banter is important.  Being able to work together, whether it is with colleagues on your team or in different areas of the company.

A positive attitude makes such a difference when you have difficult cases to work together on.

Are you an optimist or a pessimist?

Very  much an optimist.

What did you want to be as a child?

A dancer, sadly the talent was lacking! Or working with animals, but not a vet or nurse as I’m squeamish.

What will be the greatest challenge facing the bridging finance industry in the coming months?

The number of new lenders coming into the market and the uncertainty to the property market Brexit has caused.

Who or what makes you laugh?

Almost anything. Micky Flanagan. Funny animal videos.

Do you dread Monday mornings?

Sometimes, yes. Only because the weekends are too short and I’m not a morning person.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

My height. Tube travel is even more unpleasant when your head is at armpit level.

With whom would you most like to have dinner?

My friends. Micky Flanagan. Tom Hardy
