The Five Minute Interview with Gary Bailey, Managing Director, Hope Capital

We speak to managing director, Gary Bailey:

What is the best thing about being in the bridging finance business?

The great people, the relationships you form, especially when you have been in the industry for a long time and the dynamic culture of our industry.

What keeps you focused?

Continually seeking opportunities and improvement. The bridging industry is growing so fast that there are always opportunities to grow and to innovate, bringing better solutions to brokers and their clients.

What qualities do you look for in your employees or colleagues?

Positive attitude, self-motivated and driven with a desire to continually learn and improve. Also someone who will fit in with the team.

Are you an optimist or a pessimist?

An optimistic-realist.

What did you want to be as a child?

A palaeontologist. Dinosaurs always fascinated me so I loved the idea of discovering new ones.

What will be the greatest challenge facing the bridging finance industry in the coming months?

The outcome from Brexit. However, whatever the result, there remain positive signs such as the high demand for property compared to the supply of housing. We are also in the lowest interest rate environment that we have ever known which is very positive for purchasers.

Who or what makes you laugh?

I can find amusement in most people and situations which make me laugh. I like to enjoy everything I do and laugh as much as possible.

Do you dread Monday mornings?

No, Monday mornings are a new beginning to be embraced.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

To enjoy golf more.

With whom would you most like to have dinner?

There are lots of people I’d love to have dinner with, my wife being one of them! Right now, it would be apt to say Sir Kenny Dalglish, a child hood hero of mine, in recognition of his football brilliance, but also his charity work.
