We speak to business development manager, Daniel Murray:

What is the best thing about being in the bridging finance business?

It’s very fast-paced. There are a huge number of plates to spin, which is an enjoyable challenge, and I learn something new everyday. The variety means you never get bored.

What keeps you focussed?

My sense of competition. I always want to be top of the tree, so I have to stay focused.

The great thing about the team at Dragonfly is that they’re very similar to me: they have that drive, too, and it’s refreshing to have a company that reflects my personality.

I also have a young family that I want to support in the best way possible. My daily routine is for them.

What qualities do you look for in your employees or colleagues?

Hard work. It’s crucial to do the right thing at the right time.  Our business is so competitive and products are so similar that service makes you stand out. I just ask my colleagues do the simple things really well.

Are you an optimist or a pessimist?

An optimist – see below.

What did you want to be as a child?

A footballer, of course. And that dream is still very much alive. I have the talent and drive, I just haven’t been spotted yet.

What will be the greatest challenge facing the bridging finance industry in the coming months?

How we deal with the ever-increasing demand for our services. At Dragonfly, we’re quick, flexible and deliver certainty for clients – that’s what sets us aside.

It’s imperative we retain those qualities as demand continues to rise.

Who or what makes you laugh?

My son. For someone who can say very little (he’s two) he already has the ability to make me laugh. Often it’s when his mum attempts to assert her authority… He’s having none of it.

Do you dread Monday mornings?

Not a chance. I work in the sales team and I’m competitive by nature, so I’d be in the wrong job if I struggled to get out of bed.

This market is constantly changing and the rivalries are intense, so it’s important to enjoy the chase and the daily battle.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

On request from the team: my volume.

My honest answer, though, is that I’m vocal for the right reasons. Whatever I say is likely to be the most important and most amusing view on offer. I think…

With whom would you most like to have dinner?

Right now, Rita Ora. I bet she’d hold a good conversation.
