We speak to Loan Servicing Manager, Sahana Parameswaran:

What is the best thing about being in the bridging finance business?

The people, as well as the continuous learning environment.

No deal is ever the same and so I’m always learning new things and developing my knowledge and skills – which I really enjoy.

What keeps you focused?

Obviously, I do not like disappointing clients – so I’m always focused to make sure I don’t make mistakes.

I also love a good challenge, so taking on new things that I’ve not done before really focuses me!

What qualities do you look for in your employees or colleagues?

As much as having the right skills and experience is important, I would say honesty…they say this is the best policy.

I also enjoy a good laugh and a bit of banter in the office, so having a sense of humour is always a bonus too.

Are you an optimist or a pessimist?

Definitely an optimist, I believe being positive is the way forward.

One of my favourite quotes is by Richard Branson “If somebody offers you an amazing opportunity but you’re not sure you can do it, say yes – then learn how to do it later’’.

It’s all about mindset and how you approach things.

What did you want to be as a child?

Numerous things, however becoming a policewoman was a main one.

Saving lives and protecting people would have been an honourable and satisfying role.

What will be the greatest challenge facing the bridging finance industry in the coming months?

It has to be the current pandemic, these are unprecedented times as we keep hearing!

But, every challenge is an opportunity, so we just have to keep on going and doing our bit.

Who or what makes you laugh?

I would say my colleagues, my boyfriend and my friends and family. The various banter I have with each one of them never leaves me short of laughter.

Do you dread Monday mornings?

Yes!  Who doesn’t?! Having to wake up to your alarm after having a nice lie in the day before can be difficult, but once I’m in the office catching up with the team it doesn’t feel so bad after all.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I would make travelling and exploring more of a priority.

That is something I can change… so I’ll be booking some big trips once we are allowed back out again.

With whom would you most like to have dinner?

Lord Sugar, not only because I love The Apprentice, but also because I think he is a great business entrepreneur.

I’ve read his biography several times and find his story very inspirational, so I would love to pick his brain at dinner.
