Kate Gregory Autarky Capital (1)

In our latest Five Minute Interview, Tony Sanchez speaks to Kate Gregory, underwriter at Autarky Capital.

Autarky Capital was founded by Yasin Patel and Shoaib Bux who have over 30 years’ experience in the specialist finance market.

They are fintech lending platform providing bridging and construction loans. Their aim is to provide a fast and flexible solution to clients with efficiency and have a competitive approach to lending.

What is the best thing about being in the bridging and development finance business?

No two days are the same. It’s fast pace and I enjoy seeing the end results and knowing I played a part in helping someone achieve their goals, be that a ground up or a refurb.

I also love seeing a dilapidated property being brought back to life.

What keeps you focused?

My goals are what keep me focused, without them I would have nothing to strive for, it’s what gives me purpose and one of them is to expand my knowledge further in the development industry, which Autarky Capital has given me the opportunity to do.

What qualities do you look for in your employees or colleagues?

Honesty, passion and strong teamwork. It’s also important to have a good rapport and be able to have a laugh.

Are you an optimist or a pessimist?

I’d say I’m a realist, with a sprinkle of optimist and a dash of pessimist.

What did you want to be as a child?

An actress. I was a little drama queen as a child and often put on little plays or dance routines for my family and friends.

I even went on to achieve a BA(Hons) in Performing Arts. I have always been a maths geek though and knew I would end up in the financial industry.

What will be the greatest challenge facing the bridging and development finance industry in the coming months?

A lot has happened the past few years and is still continuing, I believe we haven’t felt the full effects of Brexit so it’s still looming over our heads.

Who or what makes you laugh?

My dog Cáis (pronounced Cash), he looks like Chewbacca.

Do you dread Monday mornings?

Only the ones I work….joking. I haven’t dreaded any morning since working for Autarky Capital.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

My height…I’m only 5”1.

With whom would you most like to have dinner?

My Nana. We have a lot to catch up on since she’s been gone. Plus I miss her famous cheese and onion pies.
