Sam Bailey Alternative Bridging

In our latest Five Minute Interview, Tony Sanchez speaks to Sam Bailey, Business Development Manager at Alternative Bridging Corporation.

Having worked in various different roles, including underwriting and asset management, Sam has seen the process from start to finish which has provided him with a good understanding of the various stages for the life of a loan.

Spending 4 years as a plumber has also been of great help when working on development facilities as he has spent plenty of time on site getting his hands dirty.

Alternative Bridging Corporation is a principal lender, offering the widest range of short and mid-term products, to the property industry and business community as well as bridging loans to homeowners.

They make regulated and non-regulated loans and are one of the longest established lenders in the industry.

What is the best thing about being in the bridging and development finance business?

The speed! In the bridging world, everything moves at a million miles an hour and each day provides you with a new challenge.

What keeps you focused?

Paul & Jonathan! This seems to be a common theme, but they always make sure we are working hard and pushing to be better.

What qualities do you look for in your employees or colleagues?

Honesty. I think it’s key in everything we do and it makes for a much more enjoyable working environment.

Are you an optimist or a pessimist?

An optimist – I always try to look for reasons to lend rather than reasons to reject a deal.

What did you want to be as a child?

A professional rugby player/cricketer/sprinter…basically any kind of professional athlete!

What will be the greatest challenge facing the bridging and development finance industry in the coming months?

I think the level of uncertainty is the biggest problem right now. There has been so much fear spread in the news that people are unsure about whether now is the right time to proceed or if they should play it safe for a while.

Who or what makes you laugh?

My wife. She has absolutely no filter which leads to some outrageous comments!

Do you dread Monday mornings?

I wouldn’t say I dread Mondays but if I had the choice between going to the office and being on a beach in Spain, I know what I would do.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I’ve got a bad back so it would be nice to have that sorted!

With whom would you most like to have dinner?

Tiger Woods, no explanation needed!
