Hope Capital is a 100% privately funded specialist provider of bridging loans. This short term financing is secured as a first or second charge (not stand alone) against a property or a number of properties depending on the circumstances.
It is usually required when standard lending criteria cannot be met or the time constraints of the deal mean that high street lenders are unable to perform.
We speak to head of business development, Brian Baker:
What is the best thing about being in the bridging finance business?
The fact that every day and every deal is different. Taking a proposal from initial enquiry to completion all within a matter of days is very satisfying and fulfilling.
What keeps you focused?
The need for speed and making sure our brokers and introducers receive a first class and totally dedicated service. I have always strived to be the best and making sure I stay there keeps me focussed.
What qualities do you look for in your employees or colleagues?
The ability to laugh, be supportive and fun to be around.
Are you an optimist or a pessimist?
Totally optimistic.
What did you want to be as a child?
A commercial airline pilot, or the man that made chocolate biscuits.
What will be the greatest challenge facing the bridging finance industry in the coming months?
Adapting to the new regulatory regime and maintaining high professional standards across the industry.
Who or what makes you laugh?
Steve Martin, the film Roxanne and early morning commuters.
Do you dread Monday mornings?
Nope, I love Monday mornings, best way to end the weekend.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I would like more hair on top of my head.
With whom would you most like to have dinner?
Richard Branson, Lord Alan Sugar and Donald Trump.
