We speak to Underwriter, Kieron Coote:

What is the best thing about being in the bridging finance business?

For me it’s the fast-paced environment that comes with a variety of different cases and scenarios. I also like that there is a constant opportunity to learn and progress.

What keeps you focused?

What keeps me focused is a healthy fear of failing.

I have goals I’d like to achieve, and I make sure I go to bed knowing that I’ve done all I can that day to step closer towards them!

What qualities do you look for in your employees or colleagues?

Support and ambition. If my colleagues show ambition, and cultivate an environment that values that, it spurs me on to succeed, as well as providing me with the opportunity to learn from them.

Are you an optimist or a pessimist?

Optimist. I strongly believe that anything can be achieved if you work hard enough to accomplish it.

If you approach anything with a pessimistic view, I find it hard to see how it can go smoothly, you’re waiting for it to go wrong!

What did you want to be as a child?

As a child I wanted to be a footballer. Specifically, I wanted to be just like Ian Wright.

I used to look forward to scoring goals to showcase my latest celebration!

What will be the greatest challenge facing the bridging finance industry in the coming months?

The current uncertainty around COVID and the property market basically.

However, I am in the right place to tackle all the challenges and support the wider recovery.

Who or what makes you laugh?

My friends and family always allow me the gift of being able to laugh, especially through challenging times.

Do you dread Monday mornings?

As a child I used to, I guess because I had to go to school.

As an adult I embrace the challenge and prospect of a new week!

It’s a fresh start and a chance to progress and make steps towards my continued journey of life.

I also start my day with a double shot espresso from Pret, which helps.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

My compelling desire to perfect everything I do and constantly win!

I’m a nightmare to play monopoly with. I know mistakes and losing are part of progression, so I do try to view them as positive lessons.

With whom would you most like to have dinner?

Nelson Mandela. I would love to discuss how he felt going from being an oppressed activist, to the president of the country who once oppressed him.

To rise from the ashes to eventually lead is incredibly inspirational.

A very wise and intriguing person in my opinion.
