Tim Wheeldon is on track to retain his title in the UK Saker Sportscar Challenge, following his back-to-back successes in the latest race.
The Fluent Money joint managing director took the steering wheel at the race in Croft, North Yorkshire and came no later than second place in all races. After taking first place in the practice round and coming pole position in the qualifier, he went on totake second place in the first two official races while completing the fastest lap time. For the third and final race of the day, Tim re-gained his place at the top of the podium taking first place and again completing the best lap time.
Having appeared on the podium 23 times out of 26 races in the inaugural Saker Sportscar Challenge last year, he is keen to repeat his success second time around. The tour, which launched in Zandoort Holland, sees drivers from around the UK and Europe take on seven rounds in different locations over six months. Following the Holland race, teams have returned to the UK to compete on a number of tracks around the country, including Brands Hatch and Rockingham, with the final race returning to the Dutch town.
Racing under the Fluent Motorsport brand, Tim will be driving a powerful endurance car as a sole driver, which puts increased pressure on him, given that other teams have multiple drivers.
Tim commented: “I’m really happy with my performance for the first UK race. When you are aiming to retain a title, the pressure really does increase, but I’m taking the challenge head on.”
He continued: “The next race is at Brands Hatch, which is such an iconic sporting venue. To come first there, would be an honour.”
The next race in the UK Saker Sportscar Challenge takes place on Sunday 10th June at Brands Hatch and will be televised on Sky Sports and Motors TV.
