Assetz Capital exceeds quarter of a billion in lending in South of UK

Peer-to-peer lender Assetz Capital has lent more than £250m to SMEs and property developers across the South of the UK, as appetite for alternative forms of finance continues to rise.

The alternative lender has achieved record levels of growth since it was founded in 2013, with demand for loans rising year-on-year. Assetz provided over 125 loans in the South of the UK last year, a 25 per cent rise on the deals lent in 2016.

Assetz Capital has been particularly active in the commercial finance sector, having provided over 100 loans in this sphere. Highlights include £2m of bridging finance for a London-based office purchase and the firm also provided a £412,000 commercial mortgage for a leading London-based music production company to assist in the purchase of a mixed-use property to relocate the business from rented premises, with a flat above to let.

With a range of products including commercial mortgages, bridging loans, SME term loans and business buy-to-let loans for landlords, Assetz recently expanded its product offering by launching a new loan to help professional landlords and property developers refurbish residential properties across the UK.

The UK peer-to-peer sector has grown rapidly in recent years and is now valued at over £4.6bn. Alongside the North West, the South East and South West of England are the most active regions for alternative finance in the UK. The British Business Bank’s 2018 Small Business Finance Markets report has revealed that the UK’s small businesses are diversifying in their choice of finance, with peer-to-peer business lending up 51 per cent in 2017, in contrast to bank lending volumes, which remained relatively flat.
