We speak to Senior Underwriter, Calum Waite:
What is the best thing about being in the bridging finance business?
It’s very exciting to work on seven figure transactions that complete in the matter of a few days. But mostly I enjoy working with repeat borrowers, providing them with funding solutions and watching their businesses flourish.
What keeps you focused?
My glasses… and a desire to grow and develop with the company. Each day presents new challenges which I’m always keen to tackle.
What qualities do you look for in your employees or colleagues?
Hard work, positive attitude, integrity, honesty and a good sense of humour are all qualities that help to create a great team dynamic.
Are you an optimist or a pessimist?
As an underwriter, my glass is always at 50% capacity.
What did you want to be as a child?
An architect who also moonlights as the guitar player for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I could create grand designs by day and rock out by night.
What will be the greatest challenge facing the bridging finance industry in the coming months?
I predict the collapse of one or two bridging lenders. It will be very important how the industry responds.
Who or what makes you laugh?
Early noughties Peter Kay. Phoenix Nights is pure genius.
Do you dread Monday mornings?
The only Monday mornings I dread are bank holidays when the office is closed.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
To be able to sing like Marvin Gaye. Is that too much to ask?
With whom would you most like to have dinner?
Easy, Sir Alex Ferguson. It would be a priceless experience to draw upon the knowledge and wisdom of one of the world’s greatest ever leaders. The wine would be a ‘99 red of course.
