By Tony Sanchez

In our latest Five Minute Interview, Tony Sanchez speaks to Connor Ross, Founder at BridgeCross Finance.
Connor recently launched BridgeCross Finance, a specialist brokerage he hopes will become a household name in the UK property finance space.
Based in Waterlooville, Hampshire, BridgeCross offers nationwide advice on bridging finance, development, commercial, buy-to-let and secured loans, with a reputation for hands-on service and creative deal structuring.
Connor brings experience from an award-winning brokerage and is known for his analytical mindset, problem-solving skills and fresh approach to complex funding challenges.
He remains closely involved with every case and is committed to building long-term relationships with clients and lenders alike.
What is the best thing about being in the bridging and development finance business?
The pace and variation. Everything moves quickly, and no two cases are the same. You have to think on your feet and tailor every solution to each client’s needs.
What keeps you focused?
Since I was a child, I’ve wanted to build something exciting and successful. For me, that’s BridgeCross.
If I can grow it into a go-to name in the industry, I’ll feel like I’ve achieved that dream.
What qualities do you look for in your employees or colleagues?
A good sense of humour, not taking yourself too seriously, and a natural instinct for problem-solving.
Are you an optimist or a pessimist?
Definitely an optimist.
What did you want to be as a child?
First a barrister, then a professional poker player, which I actually did for seven years before finding my way into finance.
What will be the greatest challenge facing the bridging and development finance industry in the coming months?
The cost-of-living crisis. I think we’ll see more clients turning to bridging as a last resort to keep their homes, which could be risky and lead to a spiral of unmanageable debt.
That’s why working with a reputable broker is so important, someone who’s focused on doing the right thing, not just closing the deal.
Who or what makes you laugh?
I’ve got a dark sense of humour, those kinds of jokes usually get me.
Do you dread Monday mornings?
Not at all. I look forward to them.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I’m a bit impatient, especially when waiting on solicitors or lenders to reply!
With whom would you most like to have dinner?
A lender, if they’re picking up the tab.
