From RBS to bridging finance: Gordon Spotten on speed, clients and Manchester City
By Tony Sanchez

In our latest Five Minute Interview, Tony Sanchez speaks to Gordon Spotten, Sales Director at Inhale Capital.
Bringing over two decades of experience in finance and property lending. He spent 22 years at RBS before moving into specialist property finance, where he’s built a reputation for doing right by clients and getting deals delivered.
Based in Greater Manchester, Gordon is a lifelong Manchester City supporter with more than 40 years as a season ticket holder.
When he’s not helping clients secure funding or working with brokers, he’s spending time with his children or debating football.
What is the best thing about being in the bridging finance business?
The speed and flexibility of bridging finance, with the right lender, makes it a brilliant tool for property investors to use.
Being able to complete quickly and seeing how that positively impacts clients is a real buzz for me. It makes the role exciting, plus you get to meet lots of new and interesting people
What keeps you focused?
Sounds a bit cheesy but it’s true, I honestly enjoy being in a position to help people. Being able to do that and making sure I do my best for clients keeps me focused
What qualities do you look for in your employees or colleagues?
The same qualities as I look for in everyone, treat people as you’d wish to be treated yourself.
Are you an optimist or a pessimist?
Definitely an optimist. I’d rather think of a way something can be done than why it can’t.
What did you want to be as a child?
Central defender for Manchester City, even when we were rubbish. If it wasn’t for a lack of ability, speed and athleticism I could definitely have done it.
What will be the greatest challenge facing the bridging finance industry in the coming months?
The ability for borrowers in the bridging finance space to source a reliable exit if refinancing.
It’s important to engage with your broker / long term lender at the outset as part of the project.
Who or what makes you laugh?
Will Ferrell films and some of the phrases my kids use.
Do you dread Monday mornings?
No, I’ve had too many of them to mention.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I’d like to look happier, even when I am happy I don’t seem to look it for some reason!
With whom would you most like to have dinner?
Ricky Hatton. I’d take the opportunity to tell him how proud he made us Mancunians.
