We speak to underwriter, Jemima Hayes:
What is the best thing about being in the bridging finance business?
The fast paced industry and the fact that every case is unique. No two days are the same and each brings its own challenges.
What keeps you focused?
The team in the office. Working together to achieve an excellent level of service to our brokers and borrowers.
What qualities do you look for in your employees or colleagues?
As relatively new to the industry, I like my team to be supportive and willing to help if I am unsure of anything. There is always something to learn and I appreciate my colleagues taking the time to explain it to me.
Are you an optimist or a pessimist?
Very much an optimist. Always need to look at the positive.
What did you want to be as a child?
I was/still am a huge tennis fan and would have loved to have been the next Wimbledon Champion.
My twin sister and I use to play doubles for the school team and did see ourselves as the next Venus and Serena Williams. However, I now much prefer watching the Wimbledon Final with some strawberries and cream and a glass of Pimm’s.
What will be the greatest challenge facing the bridging finance industry in the coming months?
The current pandemic has a had a huge impact, there is so much uncertainty around how long it will last and the effects it will have on the market.
Who or what makes you laugh?
I must have seen every episode of the TV show Friends about 100 times, but it never fails to make me laugh.
Do you dread Monday mornings?
I would be lying if I said I didn’t get the Monday Blues when I wake up, especially if I have had a fun weekend with my friends, however as soon as I get in the office and catch up with the team my mood is automatically lifted.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Step out of my comfort zone more.
With whom would you most like to have dinner?
Louis Theroux, he has interviewed and documented some incredible people and I would love to go into more detail about some of his documentaries. If Louis wasn’t available, then Zac Efron.
