We speak to business development manager, Emma Tempest:
What is the best thing about being in the bridging finance business?
My uncle used to be a property developer and as a child I’d watch him turn an unloved house into something very beautiful. I like helping people who are passionate about property do the same and when you need finance fast, bridging is usually the best solution.
What keeps you focused?
My brokers – I’m respectful that their clients are a fundamental part of their business and it’s important for their business survival to give their customers the best service possible. I want to help all the brokers I deal with achieve this by giving them in turn the very best service from Hope Capital. I’m very lucky to have support from a dedicated team in Head Office who will move mountains to make this possible.
What qualities do you look for in your employees or colleagues?
People I can laugh and cry with and be comfortable enough with to have a healthy debate. You spend a lot of time with your colleagues, so they become like family.
Are you an optimist or a pessimist?
Optimist – my glass is always half full. If things are going wrong one day it will pass and tomorrow will bring new opportunities. ‘Keep moving forward with your head up and a smile on your face’ is my philosophy.
What did you want to be as a child?
I wanted to own an ice cream van! What can I say…? I love ice cream!
What will be the greatest challenge facing the bridging finance industry in the coming months?
I think uncertainty in the market is causing valuers to down value properties which doesn’t help clients get the funds they require.
Who or what makes you laugh?
My 3-year old boy – he comes out with the most random things and never fails to make me laugh every single day.
Do you dread Monday mornings?
No, I love my job.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I’m very OCD – everything needs to be in order and organised otherwise I get stressed out. I would love to learn to switch my mind off at times and learn just to chill. Perhaps I’ll take up meditation!
With whom would you most like to have dinner?
My Dad died when I was a child, so definitely him.
