We speak to director, Andre Bartlett:
What is the best thing about being in the bridging finance business?
Such a cliché and I am sure an answer everyone gives but the varied nature of the transactions and clients we deal with. Also some of the people we deal with are actually quite nice and the odd one I would even consider as a friend.
What keeps you focused?
My glasses. Without them I cant see. Someone actually described them as my best feature.
What qualities do you look for in your employees or colleagues?
Honesty and integrity. If someone treats people with respect no matter who they are makes them a good person in my book.
Are you an optimist or a pessimist?
Both. Can you be both? I am both.
What did you want to be as a child?
A bus driver. Was told it wasn’t a job for me and got into finance. There are some days where I still think driving a bus would be my ideal job.
What will be the greatest challenge facing the bridging finance industry in the coming months?
Complacency and attitude. We will always have challenging times but if we sit and wait for the bad times they will happen. If we treat every deal as if it’s the last and ensure you do the best job you can then surprise surprise the next deal will follow.
Who or what makes you laugh?
People and situations. Currently reading LinkedIn with people telling me how to think, live and be happy make me laugh. People that take themselves too seriously provide hours of fun. The obsession with social media also leads to laughter with the desperation to be noticed. Plus Richard Deacon’s stories always make me laugh.
Do you dread Monday mornings?
The answer is supposed to be no but come on who wouldn’t like the working week to start on a Tuesday. Anyone that says no is lying. Most mornings involve a duvet incident where escaping takes at least 4 snooze buttons.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Where do I start! Can I have more choices? Ok my lack of willpower. I would change that then I would be slimmer, fitter and richer
With whom would you most like to have dinner?
Happy to dine with anyone that is paying. My nickname is crime. Because as everyone knows crime doesn’t pay.
