The Five Minute Interview with Neil Elvish, Business Development Manager, Oblix Capital

By

Oblix Capital provides bespoke short-term bridging and development finance, for both residential and commercial properties, throughout England and Wales.

Their aim is to make quick decisions, whilst remaining approachable, flexible and completely transparent.

We speak to business development manager for the South and Midlands, Neil Elvish:

What is the best thing about being in the bridging and development finance business?

It is certainly a growing segment of the overall mortgage market, as traditional mortgage intermediaries are getting stifled with regulated compliance and want additional income streams with alternative lending solutions.

What keeps you focussed?

Activity as a salesperson is the name of the game and trying to stick to my business plan ensures focus and delivery.

What qualities do you look for in your employees or colleagues?

Certainly working together is key, so being a team player and reliability would be a strength I would look for.

Are you an optimist or a pessimist?

Generally, I am optimistic and have been around long enough to know that uncertainty in market places can be fuelled by the media.

As the saying goes, if you think you can, then you will, but if you think you can’t, then you won’t! Business achievement is all a state of mind really.

What did you want to be as a child?

A footballer or a tennis player.

What will be the greatest challenge facing the bridging and development finance industry in the coming months?

I think the speed of progress is moving very quickly in our segment and lenders will need to ensure they develop new products at the same speed.

Lenders also need to speed up on technology advancement to support brokers in processing cases.

Who or what makes you laugh?

Sacha Baron-Cohen is one of my favourite actors, I just find him hilarious.

Do you dread Monday mornings?

No as every day is a new challenge for me to rise to, so Monday is just another day.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

My days are normally long, and I don’t eat as healthily as I should do. So definitely to eat more fruit and veg.

With whom would you most like to have dinner?

Serena Williams so she could tell me how to improve my forehand top spin.
